Referendums are the only way for the people of Taiwan to retake power

1. The KMT firmly opposes the import of health-hazardous ractopamine pork. The KMT have contacted its affiliated 22 county and city council members to express the same opposition. Some KMT county executives and city mayors also attended in person.

2. On September 12 and 13, the KMT launched a signature drive for a "Food Safety Referendum" (hopefully to be scheduled for August 28, 2021) to refuse imports of foreign pork containing ractopamine residue, and KMT Chairman Johnny Chiang went to many counties and cities to join the crowds for the promotion of this important referendum. The KMT, along with a number of supporters, will sprout up everywhere to bring to the society's attention this important food safety issue.

3. President Tsai Ing-wen didn't give Taiwan's society any notice in advance about her abrupt decision to lift the ban on U.S. pork and beef containing ractopamine residue. Nor did she have genuine considerations about Taiwanese pig farmers' future. Equally important, the KMT asserts, while Taiwan-US relations are of great significance and the KMT has been in support of robust and reciprocal Taiwan-US relations, such relations cannot be at the cost of Taiwan people's health -- the position the ruling DPP used to uphold when it was not in power.

4. The "iron cage referendum" act was eacted by the DPP-dominant Legialture in June 2019. However, the citizens of the Republic of China (Taiwan) will be able to retake the power the people gave the Tsai administration and make their own decisions on the ractopamine pork issue by voting in the referendum elections on August 28, 2021.
