Dismissal for County / City Officials Who Don’t Cooperate with Ractopork Policy?

Chairman Chiang: Prepare for Resistance Against Authoritarianism

Former Legislator Chen Shei-saint warned that if County and City officials don’t cooperate with the Tsai administration’s ractopamine pork (ractopork) policy, they might be accused of misconduct and dismissed from office. Regarding this issue, Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Johnny Chiang stated tonight (January 3rd) that a Minister without Portfolio had just warned lower level government functionaries that they may be disciplined. Thus, Chen’s warning does have merit, and we cannot rule this contingency out. If this contingency does become reality, then the Control Yuan, under the DPP government, truly will become nothing more than a secret police organization, and Hong Kong media are correct in describing Taiwan as a “Democratically Elected Dictatorship.” The Chairman called upon everyone to prepare for resistance against authoritarianism.

Tonight, Chairman Chiang attended and gave a speech at the inauguration event, “Junior Chamber Night,” of the 69th Junior Chamber International of the Republic of China (Taiwan) President and board of directors. During his speech, the Chairman stated that he felt nostalgic attending the event with the Junior Chamber family. Even if busy with official duties, he will surely still set time aside to participate in major Junior Chamber events. Chairman Chiang, who served as a Junior Chamber Branch President in 2017, stated that during his time with the Junior Chamber he learned a lot. His companions in the Junior Chamber were usually concerned about local affairs and integrating them with the international community. They were especially concerned with topics related to UN Sustainable Development Goals. Attending the Junior Chamber and related groups are the best option for young Taiwanese who wish to connect with the international community, so the Chairman called upon all to ambitiously join the Junior Chamber family.

Regarding the possibility of County and City officials being accused of misconduct and impeached if they don’t cooperate with the Tsai administration’s ractopork policy, Chairman Chiang, prior to the Junior Chamber event, stated during an interview that when it comes to the policy of allowing ractopork imports into Taiwan, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has, from the beginning, entirely neglected and trampled upon public will and adopted the attitude that only the government, the President, or the Premier has the final say, and no one else matters.

Chairman Chiang pointed out that, a few days ago, a Minister without Portfolio had just warned lower level government functionaries that they may be disciplined. Thus, Chen’s warning does have merit, and we cannot rule this contingency out. If this contingency does become reality, then the Control Yuan, under the DPP government, truly will become nothing more than a secret police organization, and foreign media are correct in describing Taiwan as a “Democratically Elected Dictatorship.” The Chairman called upon everyone to prepare for resistance against authoritarianism

Regarding the passing of former City Councilor Lee Jih-kui, Chairman Chiang stated that he had visited Yunlin County this afternoon to express his condolences. He hopes that Councilor Lee’s family are not overcome by grief and promises that if the Party can do anything to help, it will surely do so.
