Tidying up the Mess Tsai’s Government left behind, Chairman Chiang calls on voters to vote on August 28.

KMT Chairman Chiang Chi-Chen (江啟臣) attended the Huang Fu-Hsing (黃復興) Southern Regional Chapter’s New Year Event this afternoon (March 28th), and expressed gratitude to  the Huang Fu-hsing Headquarters for their contributions and efforts on various political duties. Chairman Chiang stressed that party headquarters and regional chapters will be planning a series of lectures and street-talks for the referendum slated to be held on August 28th. Whether in the local streets, traditional markets, or temple squares, Chiang called on all to come out and vote on August 28th, in order to make  our own choice of policies, and tidy up the mess Tsai’s government has left behind for people.

Chiang stated that tomorrow is the commemoration day of the 72 Martyrs of Huanghuagang. Without the sacrifices of the 72 martyrs and the revolution attempt of Huanghuagang, there might never have been a Republic of China nor Taiwan’s democracy today, and there would most possibly never had the birth of Kuomintang. Therefore, we could understand that during the 127 years of Kuomintang history, each moment is of critical importance, every decision and action made at each moment could destine the fate of our party, and even the fate and future of the Republic of China.

Chairman Chiang pointed out that the uprising on  March 29th 1911, despite the sacrifices of 72 Martyrs, planted the seed of success towards the revolution that was to come, which eventually led to the founding of the Republic of China. Thehe revolutionary martyrs led by our Founding Father, Dr. Sun Yat-sen (孫中山)at the time were but a group of passionate patriotic youth.. They sacrificed life, family and loved ones for patriotism, a better future for the country, and to overthrow autocracy for the faith of building a democratic country. As of today, it marks the  110th year for the Repubilc of China, and 127 years for the Kuomintang. We are the founding party of the nation. The most important responsibility and duty of the KMT is to defend the country we founded – the Republic of China.

Looking back on the past year since he won the Chairman by-election, Chiang stated that as a Kuomintang member, one  should stick to  the core values of the Republic of China, as stipulated  in the  Constitution.. The Constitution is the legacy of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s beliefs on governance, leadership and service to the country. Based upon the foundation of the Three Principles of the People, the ROC Constitution aims to establish a democratic republic of the people, by the people, and for the people.

The Kuomintangholds the core values of the Republic of China, inasmuch as abiding to theROC Constitution as our value and ideal, and to serve with a people-centred spirit, to implement good welfare as well as to build up a future for the country and its people.

Chairman Chiang also mentioned that Taiwan’s democracy today included a few rounds of turnover of power. Winning or losing elections is a norm in democracy, and our country should never be dominated by one-party rule.. However, We must not allow one-party dominance to take place despite the KMT being the current opposition party.

We therefore must play our part well as an opposition party to attentively supervise the ruling party. Our last line of defense would be the people’s vote if the ruling party displays an attitude of arrogance and refuses supervision by the elected legislators and council representatives.

Chairman Chiang stressed that in the face of the ruling party’s arrogance in allowing the importation of ractopamine pork, disregarding environmental protection, confiscating referendums, the KMT should go beyond the steadfast roles and hard work we uphold in the congress and the parliament in times of an unbalanced representative-politico situation, thus to appeal to the public’s voice and will. We hope that people can stand up for the decisions of our future policies with their votes in hand.

Chairman Chiang especially acknowledged the support on the petitions of two referendum proposed by the KMT. The two referendum proposals reached over 1.5 million petitions within two months, and over 1 million reached the Central Election Commission (CEC). We hope that the CEC would not overlook public opinion and retain its neutral position as a government institution. The CEC should not have deliberate withholding of proposed cases, nor to act as  a thug affiliated to the ruling parting. Let us refuse the import of ractopamine pork and regain our right for referendum on 28th of August with the votes we have in hand.

As for the future prospect, Chairman Chiang emphasized that the KMT has no right to be pessimistic, nor do we have time to lament on what has been lost. We can lose an election but we cannot lose our integrity as a party. An election will always have its wins and losses, but the unity of a party is a place of cohesion for all its followers; a place for all to follow the flag and direction of the KMT. Chiang believed that the people still have high expectations and hopes for the KMT. Therefore, the KMT must stand with the people, to be people-centred, and to strive for the support from the public.
