KMT Holds Republic of China Year 111 National Day Reception

Chairman Chu Celebrates with the Diplomatic Corps and Foreign Representatives Stationed in the ROC and Foreign Press Correspondents

The Kuomintang (KMT) held a Republic of China (ROC) Year 111 National Day reception tonight (Oct. 12th), inviting numerous diplomatic and foreign representatives from countries around the world, foreign media, and party comrades to celebrate together. The primary theme of this year’s National Day reception was the ROC flag, and the food was meticulously planned to consist of Taiwanese cuisine and Taiwanese night market snacks, putting on full display the characteristics of our nation’s culture.

Since KMT Chairman Eric Chu took office, he has actively promoted international party diplomacy. Within the past year, in all sorts of meetings, both public and closed door; numerous conferences and discussions with diplomatic and foreign representatives stationed on Taiwan from each and every country; and mutual exchanges with foreign dignitaries visiting Taiwan, the Chairman made many new friends and strengthened camaraderie with old friends, successfully expanding the KMT’s foreign relations. He also helped the international community hear different opinions and voices from within the Taiwan society, promoting the robustness of democracy. Foreign guests were enthusiastic to attend the reception; almost every single diplomatic and foreign office in Taiwan sent representatives to celebrate National Day. Furthermore, numerous new friends came to join, as well.

Chairman Chu, in his opening speech, stated that in 1911 the KMT, under Premier Sun Yat-sen’s leadership, overthrew the Qing Dynasty and established Asia’s first democratic republic: the Republic of China. The KMT, from beginning to end, has upheld and protected the ROC. Although the ROC government was moved to Taiwan, the KMT held on to its ideals, working hard to build ROC on Taiwan into a modern nation to let the people enjoy liberty, democracy, and prosperity. In 1987, after former President Chiang Ching-kuo began to allow cross-Strait travels, cross-Strait exchange flourished, helping bring peace and stability to the Taiwan Strait. The Chairman also mentioned that this June, the KMT reopened its Representative Office in the US, showing the importance we place on Taiwan-US relations. We also reinforced our communications with Japan, the EU, and other friendly nations. This August, Vice-Chairman Andrew Hsia, while visiting the mainland, conveyed to the mainland authorities our disapproval of their military exercises, and emphasized the importance of peace and dialogue. The KMT also values communication and dialogue with all nations; this will help increase regional stability. Lastly, Chairman Chu also thanked the night’s guests for attending the KMT’s Republic of China Year 111 National Day reception.

The primary theme of this year’s KMT ROC Year 111 National Day Reception was the ROC flag, so there were flag themed physical decorations and visual designs, macarons with the ROC flag on them, and three different types of specialty cocktails, each representing a different color of the flag: blue sky, white sun, and wholly red earth. Furthermore, the food was carefully planned to showcase classic Taiwanese cuisine and Taiwanese night market snacks from all over the island: for example, Tainan luwei, Penghu bingjuan, Yilan yashang, Taiwanese kimchee, Kaohsiung style fried chicken, Shilin small intestine wrapped in large intestine, Fucheng shrimp rolls, Changhua meat dumplings, Qingshui tube rice pudding, Hsinchu rice noodle soup, Keelung squid soup, and many more. The venue also had freshly made Hakka stewed meat steamed buns, jellied tofu, and traditional shaved ice desserts for the guests to enjoy, putting Taiwan’s unique specialties on full display. Furthermore, there were macarons with the ROC flag on them, in addition to three different types of specialty cocktails, each representing a different color of the flag: blue sky, white sun, and wholly red earth. Both visual and gastronomical aspects of the reception were meticulously planned and designed, garnering extensive praise from the distinguished guests.

Regarding the visual designs, photographs and videos about the history of the foundation of the ROC and the KMT’s building up of Taiwan, and Chairman Eric Chu’s meetings with foreign guests and trip to the US, were broadcast onto the huge projection screens on all four sides of the venue’s ballroom. The final image displayed an oil painting of KMT Premier Sun Yat-sen together with martyrs of the revolution, representing the history of the ROC’s establishment and exhibiting the KMT’s efforts and commitments towards a free and democratic Republic of China.
