The 8th Chiang-Chen Meeting is scheduled for August 9 at Taipei’s Grand Hotel.  SEF (Straits Exchange Foundation) Chairman Chiang Pin-kung and ARATS (Associations for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits) Chairman Chen Yunlin are expected to sign the Cross-Strait Customs Cooperation Agreement and the Cross-Strait Investment Guarantee Agreement.

According to plans made by Taiwan’s relevant departments, the 8th Chiang-Chen Meeting will be held on August 8-10.  Chen Yunlin will lead a delegation to arrive in Taipei on August 8 and stay at the Grand Hotel.  On the afternoon of August 8, both SEF deputy chairman Kao Koong-liang and ARATS deputy chairman Zheng Lizhong will immediately hold preliminary consultations.  On the morning of August 9, the 8th Chiang-Chen Meeting would start and in the afternoon, the SEF chairman and ARATS chairman will sign the Cross-Strait Customs Cooperation Agreement and the Cross-Strait Investment Guarantee Agreement.

After signing the two agreements, Mainland Affairs Council Chairperson Lai Hsin-yuan is scheduled to meet with Chen Yunlin.  On the morning of August 10, Chen Yunlin and his delegation plan to visit Hualien, staying for one night, and then return to the Mainland.

SEF spokesman Ma Shaw-chang yesterday stated that with respect to the timing and venue of the 8th Chiang-Chen Meeting, the SEF was currently consulting with ARATS.  Once a consensus had been reached, the SEF and ARATS would both make public the decision simultaneously, added Ma.

Prior to the 8th Chiang-Chen Meeting, from July 28 to 31, SEF chairman Chiang Pin-kung plans to lead a delegation to visit Taiwan businessmen in the northern part of Jiangsu Province in order to get a better understanding of recent business developments in their area and listen to their opinions.
