The Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office is currently investigating the procurement scandal related to Chiayi County’s government procurement project, and the prosecutors found new evidence that the Environmental Protection Bureaus of Greater Kaohsiung City and Yulin County were also involved in similar scandals, as they had also revealed the base price and leaked the names of the review committee members to the bidders before the bidding commenced. Yesterday the prosecutors subpoenaed twenty-odd people, including Lee Mu-sheng (李穆生), the former director-general of the Greater Kaohsiung City Environmental Protection Bureau and Yeh Te-hui (葉德惠), Yunlin County Environmental Protection Bureau Director-General.
Kaohsiung City Mayor Chen Chu (陳菊) stressed that the Kaohsiung City government would cooperate fully with the prosecutors, adding that she hoped that the prosecutors would clarify the truth as soon as possible. Su Chih-fen (蘇治芬), Yunlin County Executive, who is currently on a visit to Shanghai, also retained lawyers to provide assistance for Yeh Te-hui.
The prosecutors are currently investigating 34 cases, 31 in Kaoshiung City, and 3 in Yunlin County.
Lee Mu-sheng is suspected of involvement in the Kaohsiung-based Ti Yung Co. (地勇選礦公司) case, and resigned on August 1. Yesterday Lee was subpoenaed over the procurement scandal.
Yesterday the prosecutors searched 29 locations in Taipei City, New Taipei City, Hsinchu City, Taichung City, Yunlin County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County, and subpoenaed twenty-odd people, including officials, university professors and businessmen.
Lee Mu-sheng was released on bail of NT$ 600,000 this morning.
