KMT Vice Chairman Hsia Attends 8th Copenhagen Democracy Summit: Reaffirms Party’s Commitment to Deepening Partnerships with Global Democratic Allies

KMT Vice Chairman Andrew Hsia attended the 8th Copenhagen Democracy Summit today (May 13) in the capital city of Denmark, at the invitation of the Alliance of Democracies Foundation. During the summit, he engaged in extensive exchanges of views with political leaders, diplomats, and representatives from non-governmental organizations on a wide range of topics, including cross-Strait relations, international developments, and Taiwan’s meaningful participation in global affairs.

Vice Chairman Hsia expressed his honor in attending the summit on behalf of the Kuomintang (KMT), emphasizing that Chairman Eric Chu had entrusted him with a key mission: to convey the diverse voices of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the international community, and to reaffirm the KMT’s determination to deepen partnerships with democratic allies around the world.

Throughout the summit, Hsia participated in multiple official sessions and took the opportunity to conduct “sideline diplomacy” with political leaders, senior diplomats, and heads of NGOs from democratic countries worldwide. He engaged in in-depth discussions on Taiwan’s current situation and future challenges, cross-Strait relations, and the global state of democracy, while actively seeking support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the international community.

The KMT highlighted that during the summit, Vice Chairman Hsia held substantive exchanges with Engin Eroglu, current Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with the People’s Republic of China, and Reinhard Bütikofer, the delegation’s former Chair. Hsia reiterated the KMT’s continued advocacy for a “2D strategy” of Defense and Dialogue, and expressed hope for the European Parliament’s sustained practical support for Taiwan.

This year marks the 8th Copenhagen Democracy Summit. Prominent attendees included: Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy; Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković; former UK Prime Minister David Cameron; Engin Eroglu, Chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for relations with the People’s Republic of China; Troels Lund Poulsen, Duputy Prime Minister of Denmark; Mihail Popșoi, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova; and Kajsa Ollongren, former Defense Minister of the Netherlands.
